27th Annual
American Indian Language Development Institute
Gathering Talk:
Documenting, Describing and Revitalizing Our Languages
June 5 - June 30, 2006
The American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI) invites you to the annual summer institute. AILDI 2006, sponsored by the University of Arizona and Department of Language, Reading & Culture, with support from the National Science Foundation-National Endowment for the Humanities, will have a special focus on grant writing and documenting languages for Indigenous communities. Our theme, Gathering Talk: Documenting, Describing and Revitalizing Our Languages, reflects the emphasis and will be highlighed with guest speakers, panels, projects and films.
The American Indian Language Development Institute (AILDI) provides a unique educational experience for teachers of Native children. The AILDI format offers Native and non-Native teachers the opportunity to become researchers, practitioners, bilingual/bicultural curriculum specialists, and especially effective language teachers. The common concern of language loss, revitalization and maintenance brings educators, parents, tribal leaders and community members to this university setting to study methods for teaching Native languages and cultures and to develop materials.
